The Korean Martyrs were Catholic Christians who were persecuted in Korea in the 19th century because of their faith. Between 8,000 and 10,000 Korean Christians perished during this time period, and 103 of them, including the country's first priest, Andrew Kim Taegon, who was beheaded in 1846, were canonized in May 1984.
