She was a princess from Hungary and landgravine of the Thuringian province in Germany, also known as St. Elizabeth or St. Elisabeth. Elizabeth was 14 when she got married and 20 when she got widowed. The money she received from her husband's death was used to create a hospital where she served the sick herself. As a result of her death at the age of 24, she was canonized on May 25th, 1235. The Catholic Church recognizes her as a saint and honors her as such. She was a founding member of the Third Order of St. Francis and is now its patroness because of her contributions to the orde
