Navarrese-Basque Roman Catholic missionary St. Francis Xavier was born on April 7, 1506 in the Kingdom of Navarre. Privileged advisor to King John III of Navarre, his father was also the King's finance minister. Because he was the eldest of his brothers and sisters, he lived in a castle that is still standing and is now owned by the Jesuits.
