Hedwig was a wife, mother, grandmother, and Duchess of Silesia who loved the lord and served him diligently. She was canonized by the pope in 1267 and is the patron saint of Poland, orphans, and Germany. She fought the good fight and even foretold her death. Saint Hedwig is the patron saint of Silesia, brides, and widows, and is celebrated on October 16.
