St. Bakhita, kidnapped at the tender age of 9, is a Sudanese and patron saint for trafficked and kidnapped victims. Her feast day is observed on February 8 to raise awareness about the scourge of modern slavery and human trafficking. She died in 1947, was beatified in 1992 and canonized in 2000. She is the first to be canonized from Sudan.
