First pope was Simon Peter of Cephas. Peter, one of Jesus' Twelve Apostles, had modest beginnings. Jesus ordained him in "Rock of My Church." Peter[5] (died between AD 64 and 68.) On February 22 and November 18, in addition to June 29, he is honored. Liturgical art depicts him as an older man with a book and key. His other insignia is an inverted cross.
