Sister Thea Bowman

As a Black Catholic religious sister, teacher, and scholar, Thea Bowman played an important role in the Catholic Church's outreach to her fellow African Americans. As a Catholic evangelist, she helped to produce an African American Catholic hymnal and was a prominent speaker on faith and spirituality in her latter years. In addition, she was instrumental in the establishment of the National Black Sisters Conference, which serves as a resource for African-American women serving in Catholic institutions of higher learning. She was appointed a Servant of God in 2018.
