The disciple and friend of Jesus raised from the dead by Jesus. Martha and Mary's brother, he lived in Bethany, an Israeli suburb of Jerusalem. Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead four days after his death in John's gospel. The Eastern Orthodox Church calls him "Righteous Lazarus", or "the Four-Days Dead". His last years are depicted differently in Catholic and Eastern Orthodox sources.
