Saint Nicholas

Often referred to as the saint who became Santa Claus, he was born into wealth, was orphaned at a young age and distributed all his wealth to serve Christ. He was ordained bishop of Myra after his prayer calmed a boisterous sea and saved the ship. He is the patron saint of children, merchants, mariners, bakers, and travelers. His feast day is December 6 and canonization date was 1446, June 5.
